Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has raised concerns about the performance of Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, saying he is overrated.
Khanye was critical of the Chippa United goalkeeper, who rose to prominence after a standout AFCON 2023 campaign with Nigeria, where he helped the Super Eagles reach the final.
“He spills high balls and makes schoolboy mistakes. Just because he plays for Nigeria doesn’t mean he’s world-class,” said Khanye.
“I don’t think he suits Chiefs. He’s Overrated” he told iDiski Times.
However, the former South Africa winger has recommended Ricardo Goss as the perfect goalkeeper for the Chili boys.
“I think the fact that he is a Nigerian international as first choice goalkeeper can be blinding…” he said.
Despite the criticism, the 28-year-old has had a solid season in the South African Premier League this season, making 23 league appearances, keeping 9 clean sheets, and conceding 25 goals. He narrowly missed out on the Golden Glove award at AFCON 2023.
Although Kaizer Chiefs signed Fiacre Ntwari earlier this season, transfer rumours around Nwabali persist. With interest growing locally and internationally, a big move could still be on the cards—but whether that destination is Naturena remains uncertain.
