Sekhukhune United eye Cedric Kaze for coaching job

Former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has emerged as a strong contender for the vacant head coaching position at Sekhukhune United ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.

Sekhukhune are continuing their search for a permanent coach following the departure of Eric Tinkler during the closing stages of the 2025/26 campaign.

The club opted to part ways with Tinkler after falling short of their objective of securing a third-place finish in the league standings. Following his exit, Paulus Masehe and Andre Arendse were entrusted with leading the team on an interim basis while management assessed long-term options.

Kaze has now emerged as one of the frontrunners for the role after recently being allowed to leave Kaizer Chiefs.

Speaking about the possibility of taking charge of a new club in the PSL, the Burundian tactician admitted that discussions are ongoing and expressed confidence in his understanding of the South African football landscape.

“There are some talks that are happening. If it goes well, I’d gladly take it because I believe I know the platform, the league, the players and the format of the league,” Kaze said.

The coach further revealed that the interested club competes in the upper half of the Betway Premiership standings, with Sekhukhune now widely believed to be the side leading the race for his services.

Kaze’s reputation has grown significantly following his work at Chiefs, where he served alongside Ben Youssef Khalil in a co-coaching arrangement. Under their guidance, the Soweto giants secured a third-place finish, ending a six-year wait for a top-three league position.

That achievement has strengthened Kaze’s credentials and made him an attractive option for clubs seeking stability and improved performances.

Should negotiations progress positively, Sekhukhune could soon appoint a coach with considerable PSL experience and a proven record of guiding teams to competitive finishes.

For now, discussions remain ongoing, but Kaze appears well-positioned to become the next man in charge at Babina Noko as the club prepares for the challenges of the upcoming season.
