Olympique Marseille have parted ways with former Italian midfielder Ivan Gennaro Gattuso, terminating his managerial role due to a lacklustre performance that saw the club fail to secure a victory in the last six matches.
The 1993 European Champions currently find themselves in the 9th position on the French Ligue 1 table with 30 points after 22 games.
To fill the vacant managerial position, Jean-Louis Gasset, the former coach of Ivory Coast, is poised to take over.
Gasset, dismissed after just three group games in the AFCON following Ivory Coast’s disappointing performance, is set to sign a contract with Marseille until the end of the season, as reported by Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Gasset’s AFCON journey began on a positive note with a victory against Guinea Bissau, where Seko Fofana and Jean Krasso found the net.
However, subsequent losses to Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea led to his removal from the Ivory Coast coaching role.
In an unexpected turn, the Federation of Ivorian Football appointed Emerse Fae, who guided the team to triumph as host nation in the tournament.
Now, Gasset looks forward to the challenge of reviving Marseille’s fortunes in the remainder of the season.
