Laryea Kingston, a former Ghanaian international and Black Stars player, has thrown his weight behind Mubarak Wakaso’s potential inclusion in the Ghana national football team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast

. Kingston, expressing his belief in Wakaso’s skills and experience, contends that the midfielder deserves a place in the squad for the continental tournament.

Wakaso, who was conspicuously absent from the 55-man provisional squad released by coach Chris Hughton, has found a vocal supporter in Kingston.

Recognizing the qualities displayed by the former Espanyol player, Kingston deems it an unwise decision to overlook Wakaso for the prestigious competition.

“Yes, of course. If he plays very well, and the last time I saw Wakaso was during the holidays. I saw them play against professionals who play in Europe.

I was invited by Abedi Pelé, and I watched him. It was incredible. I saw quality, I saw experience, and I saw a consistent player. His work rate is incredible, so I’m very happy that he’s still performing well, and if I were in Chris’s place, I would invite him,” Kingston remarked in an interview with Sienu TV on YouTube.

Kingston’s endorsement of Wakaso underscores the debate surrounding the selection process, with fans and experts closely scrutinizing the choices made by the coaching staff.

As the AFCON 2023 approaches, the discussions on the final squad composition are expected to intensify, with voices like Kingston’s advocating for the recognition of seasoned players like Mubarak Wakaso.
