Tarek Suleiman, the former goalkeeper coach of Al-Ahly, has pointed out significant mistakes made by Mohamed Abu Jabal, Egypt’s goalkeeper, contributing to the team’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt bid farewell to the AFCON tournament in the Round of 16 after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo 8-7 in a penalty shootout.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw after regular and extra time.
In a phone interview with “Youth and Sports” radio, Tarek Suleiman stated, “Abu Jabal does not bear the responsibility alone, but he does shoulder a significant portion of it.
I blame him for his approach to penalty kicks.
Mohamed Abu Jabal stood in his goal incorrectly and seemed tense.”
The former Al-Ahly goalkeeper coach added, “Abu Jabal’s strategy for dealing with penalty kicks was wrong, and the bottle trick failed him.
The bottle revealed that his coach had specified the angle for player number 7, who appeared next to the letter L, indicating that the player would shoot to the left.
However, the surprise was that Abu Jabal did not adhere to the instructions and decided to dive to the right as well.”
