Morocco rescue late draw against Burkina Faso in WAFCON warm-up
Morocco women’s national football team salvaged a late 1-1 draw against the Burkina Faso women’s national football team in a preparation match for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026, scoring in stoppage time after appearing set for defeat.
The encounter formed part of both teams’ build-up to the continental tournament, with each side seeking to fine-tune their squad and tactics ahead of the competition.
For much of the match, neither team managed to break the deadlock, with the two sides contesting possession and searching for an opening as the game moved into its closing stages.
Burkina Faso eventually appeared to have found the decisive moment late in the match. In the 81st minute, Adèle Naomi put her side in front, finishing off a determined attacking phase to give the Burkinabè team a deserved lead.
The goal came after a strong period of pressure from Burkina Faso, who had pushed forward with increasing confidence as the game progressed.
Naomi’s strike seemed to reward that late surge and placed her team within touching distance of victory.
With time running out, Burkina Faso looked on course to secure an important win in their preparations for the upcoming tournament. However, the match took another turn in the final moments.
Morocco managed to find an equaliser deep into stoppage time, denying their opponents what would have been a hard-earned result.
The late goal ensured the match ended level at 1-1, bringing a dramatic conclusion to the friendly encounter.
The outcome proved particularly frustrating for the Burkina Faso players, who had believed they had done enough to see out the victory after taking the lead so late in the game.
Instead, the equaliser arrived just before the final whistle, leaving the Burkinabè side to reflect on a result that slipped away at the last possible moment.
Despite the disappointment, the match provided both teams with valuable preparation time as they continue their build-up towards the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
