This season in Senegal’s professional football league has seen a notable increase in attacking prowess, with the milestone of 200 goals being reached in less than 20 match days, a feat not seen in previous seasons since the establishment of professionalism in 2009-2010.
The previous record of 20 goals scored during the 10th match day was nearly surpassed this weekend, during the 18th match day of the Senegal championship. A total of 19 goals were scored across the seven matches played, resulting in an average of 2.71 goals per match, a significant increase from the previous averages of 1.57 or 1.52 goals per match.
In a key match between Jaraaf of Dakar and AS Pikine, which both held the top positions before the match, AS Pikine emerged victorious with a clear 3-0 win. This victory propelled AS Pikine to the top of the table, ahead of Jaraaf on goal difference.
Other notable results from the 18th match day include Stade de Mbour’s 2-0 victory over Suneor de Diourbel, and NGB’s 3-1 win against the Port, which helped NGB move out of the relegation zone.
Despite the loss, Jaraaf remains the highest-scoring team with 26 goals in 18 matches, followed closely by DUC with 23 goals. On the defensive end, Ouakam Sports Union has the best defensive record, conceding only 6 goals in 18 matches, while DUC has the weakest defense with 26 goals conceded.
Individually, Jaraaf’s striker Ibrahima Diop leads the goal-scoring charts with 13 goals, followed by Adama Mbaye of AS Pikine with 10 goals.
