The Lions of Senegal have a packed schedule for the month of May, likely in preparation for the upcoming CAN 2015 qualifiers, where matches will be coming thick and fast. Alain Giresse and his team are set to play two matches in less than five days.
The first encounter is scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso against the Etalons on May 21, 2014. Despite initial doubts, the match was confirmed by the president of the Senegalese football federation, Me Augustin Senghor, after resolving issues regarding revenue payment between the Burkinabe football federation and the Ministry of Sports.
Four days later, on May 25, the Lions will face Kosovo in Paris. This match also stirred some controversy in Senegal, not due to revenue issues, but rather due to the relatively low profile of the opponent. While some, including former footballers like Fadiga and El Hadji Diouf, expressed skepticism, Giresse and Senghor believe it to be a valuable match for the Lions.
There was even a possibility of a third match against Colombia on May 31, but the Senegalese federation opted to send the Olympic and local team to play this fixture, prioritizing other commitments.
