Morocco’s new coaching team under Mohamed Ouahbi begins to take shape

The structure of the new coaching staff expected to work under Mohamed Ouahbi with the Morocco national football team is gradually becoming clearer as the national side prepares for a transition in leadership.

The changes come as the tenure of Walid Regragui with the Atlas Lions draws to a close. Although the decision is still awaiting formal confirmation from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, several details about the incoming technical team have already begun to emerge.

Ouahbi is expected to take charge of the national team on a provisional basis until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 19 July.

The coach recently achieved success with Morocco’s under-20 side, guiding the team to a world title in October, and is now being considered to lead the senior squad during the upcoming period.

Reports suggest that his technical staff will include several experienced figures from both international and club football.

Among them is Joao Sacramento, who previously worked as an assistant coach to renowned manager José Mourinho.

According to information circulated by Soccer212, Sacramento is expected to take on the role of first assistant within the new structure.

Former Moroccan international Youssouf Hadji is also expected to be part of the setup.

The ex-forward, who earned 64 international caps and scored 16 goals for Morocco, is reportedly set to serve as the second assistant coach.

The position of physical trainer could be filled by Spanish specialist Ismael Fernandez. The 49-year-old recently stepped down from his role at Villarreal CF and brings with him experience from several well-known European clubs.

During his career, Fernandez has worked with teams including Olympique de Marseille, Athletic Bilbao, Valencia CF and Sevilla FC, experience that could prove valuable within Morocco’s technical setup.

Multiple media outlets, including L’Équipe and Foot Mercato, have reported that the official presentation of the new coaching staff is expected soon.

The federation is also planning a ceremony to pay tribute to Regragui, marking the end of his period in charge of the national team while introducing the group expected to guide the Atlas Lions in the coming months.
