Giovanni Trapattoni, the 75-year-old Italian coach, has arrived in Morocco. He landed in Marrakech at 7:30 p.m. local time from Milan, igniting speculation that he could become the next coach of Morocco just ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) scheduled to take place in the country early next year.
Trapattoni is expected to meet with Faouzi Lekjaa, the new president of the Royal Moroccan Federation (FRMF), to discuss and negotiate his potential contract.
However, Trapattoni faces competition from Dutchman Dick Advocaat for the coaching position.
Meanwhile, it appears that the possibility of Frenchman Hervé Renard taking on the role is diminishing, despite his surprising victory in the CAN with Zambia in 2012.
The situation continues to develop, and the outcome remains to be seen.
Here is Trapattoni’s impressive track record:
As a player for AC Milan:
Italian Championship (2): 1961-62 and 1967-68.
Italian Cup (1): 1966-67.
European Cup (2): 1962-63 and 1968-69.
Cup Winners’ Cup (1): 1967-68.
Intercontinental Cup (1): 1969.
