Barcelona face one of their toughest away assignments in the Champions League when they visit Galatasaray in Istanbul on Tuesday, with manager Hansi Flick warning his players not to underestimate the Turkish side or the intensity inside the stadium.
Barcelona began their European campaign with a convincing 5-1 victory over Dutch club Feyenoord, but Flick has stressed that the trip to Galatasaray represents a significantly different challenge.
The German manager has made the importance of the fixture clear both within the club and in his public comments. He considers the match a key point in Barcelona’s schedule and wants his side to maintain their concentration against opponents he respects highly.
Flick believes Galatasaray have a high-quality squad featuring players with significant international experience. Among the Turkish club’s leading names are Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane, whose presence has reinforced Barcelona’s assessment of the threat they will face.
From the Barcelona coaching staff’s perspective, the fixture is among the most difficult away games of the league phase. They regard it as comparable in difficulty to the meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.
The quality of Galatasaray’s team is not the only concern. The atmosphere expected at the stadium has also been a major focus for Flick ahead of the match.
Speaking at the news conference after Barcelona’s game against Getafe, Flick issued a clear warning about the conditions awaiting his players in Istanbul. He described the atmosphere as the most intense and the stadium as the loudest in the whole of Europe.
Barcelona’s squad has already experienced matches played under extreme pressure. Their players faced a demanding occasion against Inter Milan in the semi-final at San Siro, but the message delivered to the dressing room is that Galatasaray could provide an even more hostile environment.
Flick has warned that the atmosphere may be the fiercest his players have encountered inside a football stadium. He is therefore demanding maximum focus from Barcelona as they aim to leave Istanbul with all three points.
