Fiorentina have refuted reports suggesting they are in advanced talks to sign Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Speaking to Le Site Info, Roberto Goretti, the club’s technical director, rejected claims of any interest in the former Chelsea playmaker.
“He doesn’t interest us,” Goretti said bluntly, adding that the circulating reports are without merit and that Ziyech is not part of the Italian side’s transfer strategy.
Goretti’s remarks come in response to claims made by Tutto Calcio, which had reported that Ziyech was on the verge of joining the Serie A club.
According to the Italian outlet, discussions between the player’s representatives and Fiorentina had allegedly reached an advanced stage, with both sides making significant progress toward a deal.
Further speculation from the same source suggested that Ziyech had turned down several lucrative offers from clubs in the Gulf region.
The 31-year-old was said to favour a return to European football in an effort to revive his career following underwhelming spells at Galatasaray in Turkey and more recently at Al-Duhail in Qatar.
Ziyech parted ways with the Qatari side after a mutual contract termination.
The club initiated the separation, but the Moroccan international has yet to publicly comment on the development or his next career move.
The former Ajax star, once regarded as one of Europe’s most creative midfielders, has struggled to replicate his peak form in recent seasons.
Despite a promising start at Chelsea following his move from the Eredivisie in 2020, Ziyech gradually saw his playing time diminish and was loaned out in an attempt to reignite his performances.
Fiorentina’s firm denial puts to rest growing chatter around a potential deal that had begun to gain traction across various European media platforms.
The club appears intent on pursuing alternative targets as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
For now, Ziyech’s future remains uncertain as he navigates free agency and weighs his next step.
Whether a return to one of Europe’s top leagues materializes remains to be seen, but Fiorentina have made it clear he won’t be making that comeback in Florence.
