FIFA urges Moroccan football federation to impose transfer ban on Wydad

Wydad Wac 1

FIFA, the international governing body for football, has reached out to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation regarding the enforcement of a transfer ban on Wydad Athletic Club during the ongoing winter transfer window.

According to a document obtained by “Hesport,” FIFA has called on the football federation to implement the ban on Wydad due to the case involving Nigerian player Michel Babatunde.

The document specifies that Wydad has not fulfilled the payment ordered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in favor of Babatunde.

Consequently, FIFA has requested the suspension of Wydad’s transfers during the current winter transfer market.

CAS had rejected Wydad’s appeal in December of the previous year in the case brought forward by Babatunde, imposing a fine of $557,600 on the “Red Devils.”

Wydad aims to resolve this matter promptly as it plans for the upcoming phase, intending to reinforce its squad with new players under the guidance of Tunisian coach Faouzi Benzarti.

On Monday, Wydad officially completed the signings of Osama Zemrani and Ayoub Bushta.

Additionally, earlier on, the club terminated the contracts of Hamza Rokraqui and Sofiane Ahnach.

This development poses a challenge for Wydad as it navigates the complexities of the transfer window, strategizing for the future under the leadership of Coach Faouzi Benzarti.
