The captain of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, Daniel Bameyi, has assured Nigerians that the team is determined to give their best at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile to make them proud.

This year’s youth tournament will be held in Chile from September 27 to October 19.

Nigeria, the seven-time African U20 Champions, have been drawn in Group F and will compete with Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and Norway.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Daniel Bameyi emphasised that the Flying Eagles are well-prepared to deliver a top performance.

“We are fully prepared, we’ve been training, and this is the right time for us to show what we’ve been working for,” Bameyi told Victor Ademola ahead of the opening fixture against Saudi Arabia.

He continued, “So many lessons were learnt from the last World Cup. We lost at the quarter-final one goal to nil. It was against South Korea. We had the opportunity to bury that game, but unfortunately, we didn’t take our chances. That was something that cost us that match.

“We know how difficult the World Cup is. No country is small and it’s football, anything can happen. We are asking that you keep praying for us, and keep supporting us, and we will give our best to make the country proud.”

Nigeria’s opening match at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup against Saudi Arabia will be played on Monday, September 29.
