In response to recent turmoil regarding the conflicting schedules of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA Club World Cup, FIFA has addressed concerns raised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), potentially resolving the scheduling clash.
FIFA’s response comes after speculation that the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, set to be held in Morocco in 2025, would overlap with the FIFA Club World Cup, posing a dilemma for clubs like Egypt’s Al Ahly.
According to reports, FIFA replied to CAF’s letter regarding the coordination between the two tournaments, acknowledging the need for a solution to prevent a clash with the 2025 Club World Cup, particularly as European leagues are set to commence in August.
The international governing body urged CAF to work towards rescheduling the Africa Cup of Nations and to engage with the Moroccan Football Federation to find a mutually acceptable solution, emphasizing FIFA’s inability to postpone the Club World Cup due to logistical challenges.
A potential change in the timing of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations could alleviate concerns for clubs like Al Ahly, which have secured berths in the Club World Cup.
The Moroccan Football Federation had previously announced plans to host the Africa Cup of Nations between June and July 2025.
The FIFA Club World Cup, in its revamped format, is scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, featuring teams from around the globe, including Al Ahly.
The resolution of the scheduling conflict would provide relief for African clubs and ensure their participation in both prestigious tournaments without disruption.
