Gianni Infantino, the president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), has announced an urgent decision regarding the introduction of the blue card, a proposed disciplinary measure during matches.
The proposal for the blue card, which has been under consideration by FIFA in recent times, has sparked widespread controversy.
It suggests removing a player from the field for a period of 10 minutes, then allowing them to return.
Infantino has unequivocally rejected the idea of introducing the new card, which was supposed to temporarily remove players from the field for 10 minutes as a penalty less severe than expulsion.
This would occur in cases of tactical fouls or dissent against the referee.
According to the proposal, if a player receives a blue card twice, they will be ejected from the match.
Additionally, receiving the same card along with a yellow card would result in a red card being shown and subsequently lead to permanent expulsion.
In response to this matter, Infantino stated, “Blue cards will not be used at the professional level matches at all.
We oppose this idea, and I was not aware of it as the FIFA president.”
He further commented in statements reported by the global news agency Reuters, “In general, we are open to new ideas and proposals regarding the game of football, but the blue cards will not be implemented to protect the game and its traditions.”
