FIFA president Infantino applauds Morocco’s stadium development during Tangier visit
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised Morocco’s commitment to building world-class sporting infrastructure after inspecting renovation works at the Grand Stadium of Tangier on Sunday.
Infantino toured the site alongside Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), and Younes Tazi, Governor of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.
The works, led entirely by Moroccan engineers and construction teams, are said to be progressing at record speed as part of the country’s wider plan to modernize facilities ahead of major football competitions.
The FIFA boss lauded both the quality and pace of the upgrades, highlighting the vision of King Mohammed VI and Morocco’s ambition to strengthen its standing on the global football stage.
His remarks reinforced earlier statements in which he described Morocco as an “emerging football elite” ready to host world-class events.
Morocco is set to stage the FIFA Club World Cup and will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal — milestones that reflect its growing influence in international football.
In recent years, the North African nation has poured significant investment into stadiums in Rabat, Marrakech, Agadir, and Tangier.
The Tangier venue, which has already hosted marquee events such as the Spanish Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup fixtures, is regarded as central to this long-term strategy.
With FIFA’s endorsement and sustained domestic investment, Morocco is steadily positioning itself as both a continental hub and a credible global destination for major football tournaments.
