FIFA President Gianni Infantino pays tribute to Moroccan football legend Ahmed Faras

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed profound sorrow following the passing of Moroccan football icon Ahmed Faras, a towering figure in African football history.

In a message filled with heartfelt respect, Infantino honoured the legacy of a player who not only made history on the pitch but also inspired generations far beyond it.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Moroccan player Ahmed Faras,” Infantino stated in a post on his Instagram page.

“He was the highest scorer for his national team, named African Player of the Year in 1975, and captained Morocco to their historic Africa Cup of Nations victory in 1976.”

Faras was more than a record holder – he was a symbol of excellence and pride for Morocco.

His leadership, vision, and incredible skill elevated the Moroccan national team during a golden era and left an indelible mark on the continent’s football narrative.
