The question of who will succeed Joseph Blatter as the head of FIFA remains uncertain, as Blatter has shown no intention of relinquishing his position despite leading the institution for over 15 years. However, Michel Platini, the current president of UEFA, has emerged as a potential challenger to Blatter’s leadership.
In an interview with lematin.ch, Platini suggested that he is the only person capable of defeating Blatter, effectively positioning himself as a contender for the presidency. This assertion disregards the candidacy of the only officially declared candidate so far, Frenchman Jérôme Champagne.
Platini has not yet announced his intentions regarding the FIFA election in 2015. He has indicated that he will provide an answer after the 2014 World Cup. He also mentioned the possibility of European federations preferring him to remain at UEFA, which could influence his decision.
The competition for the FIFA presidency remains uncertain, with Blatter’s firm grip on power being challenged by potential contenders like Platini.
