The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has officially lifted the suspension imposed on the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT), clearing the path for Congo’s return to international competition.
With the ban now revoked, Congo will participate in the upcoming round of qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The reinstatement was confirmed by FIFA on Wednesday, following the fulfilment of conditions laid out by the Bureau of the FIFA Council.
This decision restores full operational control to FECOFOOT’s executive committee, headed by Jean-Guy Blaise Mayolas, and brings an end to weeks of uncertainty surrounding the federation.
The suspension had stemmed from concerns over alleged third-party interference — a violation FIFA treats seriously as it undermines the autonomy of football governing bodies.
Congo, currently sitting fifth in Group E, has played only one match so far in the qualification campaign. The team is set to face Niger on June 6, followed by a crucial clash against group leaders Morocco on June 11. Morocco leads the standings with two wins from two matches.
In its statement, FIFA noted: “The conditions set by the Bureau of the FIFA Council for lifting the suspension have been met. Consequently, the Congolese Football Federation regains all its membership rights with immediate effect.”
As of now, FECOFOOT has not issued a public response to the development. However, with their reinstatement confirmed, all eyes will be on how Congo fares in the critical fixtures ahead.
