FIFA has imposed a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs (approximately 8,000 euros) on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) following the behavior of its supporters during the match against Libya in the Africa zone qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup. The match, which ended in a draw (0-0), witnessed projectiles thrown onto the pitch by the fans at the Stade des Martyrs on March 24. While the current sanction is a monetary fine, FIFA has warned that the stadium could face suspension if there are further incidents during the Leopards’ upcoming matches. DR Congo is currently in 3rd place in Group I, with 4 points, behind Libya (2nd with 5 points) and Cameroon (1st with 6 points). Only the group leaders will qualify for the final round of the World Cup qualifiers in Brazil. The next match for the Leopards will be against Libya in Tripoli on June 7.
