It has been officially announced since Wednesday that Mauritania will face Niger in a friendly match on March 5 as part of FIFA Day. After deliberation between the Sparrowhawks of Togo and the Mena of Niger, the Mourabitounes have made their decision.
The decision was influenced by factors such as geographical proximity and the desire of Nigerien officials to participate in the match, following discussions with their Mauritanian counterparts last year.
Led by coach Patrice Neveu, Mauritania’s team recently made their debut in a major continental competition at CHAN 2014, where they performed credibly despite not advancing to the quarter-finals.
Niger, on the other hand, has participated in the last two editions of the African Cup of Nations (2012 and 2013) without progressing beyond the group stage.
As for Togo, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the recent AFCON by Burkina Faso, and they are now awaiting confirmation of their opponent for the March 5 fixture.
