Egyptian legend Mido has criticised Al Ahly coach Jose Riveiro following the loss to Palmeiras in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.
Al Ahly remain without a win at the Club World Cup after going down 2-0 to the Brazilian outfit on Thursday evening at Metlife Stadium.
After the game, Mido criticised the Spanish tactician for a lack of experience and his ability to change the match in the second half.
“In the second half, Palmeiras relied on a high-pressing style and succeeded in scoring the first goal.
“However, the Al Ahly coach’s lack of experience in managing the match was evident, as he was swayed by his opponent’s style and lost control of the game. He lacked a clear vision of the field.
“Despite the possession, the team did not pose any real threat to the goal, and the performance was lacklustre offensively.”
“Al-Ahly is supposed to be the strongest team in Egypt, and they were expected to appear stronger and more consistent, even in the event of a loss.
“The players did not give their all, without exception. Everyone was extremely weak. What is unfortunate is that the players did not show the minimum basics of football on the field. I am very sad about this performance,” he added.
Ahly now face a must-win clash against FC Porto in their final group-stage match. To keep their hopes of progressing alive, they will need not only a win but a convincing one.
