Al Ahly legend Rabi Yassin has questioned coach Jose Riveiro’s substitution during the sides FIFA Club World Cup opener against Inter Miami.
The Egyptian giants played out a pulsating goalless draw at the weekend against the Major League Soccer outfit. With Mohammed Trezeguet missing a scoring opportunity from the spot, both teams had to settle for a draw.
And Rabi Yassin speaking to El Fagr Sport expressed his disappointment in Riveiro following Ahmed Zizo’s substitution.
“I was surprised by Riveiro’s decision to take Ahmed Zizo off against Inter Miami. The player showed great form. What happened was a show of disrespect to a footballer of Zizo’s caliber. Zizo is not just an ordinary player, and everyone was talking about his transfer. On the pitch, he’s a major reinforcement for Al-Ahly,” Yassin commented.
Overall, Yassin believes Riveiro needed to be more resolute, and that the team could have beaten Inter Miami.
“The first match had its ups and downs. We could have decided it in the first half. Riveiro must be tough with any player who makes mistakes,” Yassin added.
Al Ahly will lock horns with Palmeiras in their second Group A clash on June 19, 2025.
