Ferran Torres considers Paris Saint-Germain move as Barcelona renewal talks stall

Ferran Torres has told people close to him that he is willing to join Paris Saint-Germain, with the French club reportedly moving closer to an agreement with the Barcelona forward before opening formal negotiations with the Spanish side.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, discussions between Torres and Paris Saint-Germain are progressing positively. The two parties are expected to use next week to try to reach a final agreement over the player’s move, after which the Ligue 1 club would begin official talks with Barcelona.

Torres’ future has reached a decisive stage as Barcelona continue to hope that he will remain at the club. The Catalan side have informed the Spain international that they want him to sign a new contract, but negotiations have not yet formally begun.

His current deal at Barcelona expires in the summer of 2027. However, the club’s difficulties with its salary-cap limit mean that discussions over an extension are expected to be delayed until September.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique is reported to have played an important role in persuading Torres to consider the move. The pair have a strong relationship from their time together with the Spain national team, and the French coach has reportedly offered Torres a prominent position in his plans for Paris Saint-Germain.

That promise of a regular starting role is understood to be central to the player’s thinking. Torres did not enjoy complete confidence at Barcelona under Hansi Flick, despite the performances he produced during the previous season, and a more prominent role in Paris is believed to appeal to him.

Paris Saint-Germain have nevertheless postponed a final decision on the transfer while they deal with the futures of several players who could leave the club. Goncalo Ramos has already departed for Milan, while Randal Kolo Muani is close to joining Juventus. There is also an ongoing possibility that Bradley Barcola could move to Liverpool.

Once those departures have been completed, Paris Saint-Germain are expected to begin their formal efforts to sign Torres. The 25-year-old is described as the club’s leading target to strengthen their attacking options.

Any departure would leave Barcelona needing to recruit another forward. The club’s preferred replacement remains Argentina international Julian Alvarez, although that pursuit has stalled because Atletico de Madrid have refused to allow the striker to leave.

The report suggests that Barcelona’s desire to renew Torres’ contract is being weighed against their financial restrictions, while Paris Saint-Germain are preparing to make their move once space has been created within their squad. For now, Torres remains a Barcelona player, but his reported willingness to join the French champions has placed his future under increasing uncertainty.
