Fenerbahçe have decided to activate the purchase option in Sofyan Amrabat’s loan deal, securing the Moroccan midfielder on a permanent transfer from Fiorentina.
The 28-year-old, who arrived in Turkey at the start of the season, has impressed under José Mourinho, prompting the club to take swift action to retain his services beyond the summer.
Amrabat’s revival in Turkey
After a difficult spell at Manchester United during the 2023/24 campaign, where he struggled to make a lasting impact, Amrabat returned to Fiorentina.
However, with just one year remaining on his contract, the Italian club opted to send him on another loan, this time to Fenerbahçe.
His performances in Turkey have marked a significant turnaround.
Having played 29 matches so far this season—22 of them as a starter—Amrabat has not only solidified his role as a key midfield presence but has also contributed offensively, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
This level of productivity is a notable improvement for a player primarily known for his defensive qualities.
Fenerbahçe’s confidence in Amrabat
According to Turkish outlet Takvim, Fenerbahçe are convinced of Amrabat’s value and have exercised the buyout clause, reportedly set between €12 million and €13 million.
The midfielder is now expected to sign a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2028.
José Mourinho, who has placed significant trust in the Moroccan international, personally requested the club finalize the deal.
The Portuguese coach sees Amrabat as a crucial part of his plans moving forward, given his work rate, tactical discipline, and growing influence in the squad.
A fresh start in Istanbul
For Amrabat, this move represents a fresh start and a chance to fully integrate into a club where he feels valued.
His struggles at Manchester United may have cast doubt on his future at the highest level, but his resurgence in Turkey has proven that he still has plenty to offer.
With Fenerbahçe currently competing for domestic and European success, keeping Amrabat is seen as a key step in maintaining stability in midfield.
The club is expected to officially confirm the deal in the coming weeks, solidifying the Moroccan’s future in Istanbul.
