German-Nigerian midfielder Felix Nmecha remains sidelined as he recovers from a knee injury suffered during the 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen on January 25.
The 24-year-old was forced off early in the match and has yet to return to team training.
Head coach Niko Kovac addressed Nmecha’s situation in a press conference on Tuesday, making it clear that a return is still some way off.
“It’s a shame that Felix is injured. It will also take time. I don’t expect it to be there again in February. I expect the middle, end of March. He certainly plays a good role,” Kovac told Sport.de.
Born to a German mother and a Nigerian father, Nmecha has showcased his versatility on the international stage, representing both Germany and England at the youth level. His performances earned him a call-up to Germany’s senior squad for friendlies against Peru and Belgium on March 17, 2023.
For now, Dortmund will have to wait as Nmecha continues his rehabilitation, with his return expected in the latter stages of the season.
