Equatoguinean Football Federation (FEGUIFUT) has taken decisive action against national team veterans Emilio Nsue and Iván Salvador following the African Cup of Nations.
The federation, in a meeting chaired by President Venancio Tomas NDOG MICHA on February 9, 2024, announced the temporary suspension of both players due to inappropriate behaviour.
Nsue faces suspension for multiple instances of serious indiscipline, both before and after the National Team’s participation in the 34th Edition of the African Cup of Nations.
On the other hand, Salvador’s suspension is linked to an unpleasant incident in Abidjan on January 29, 2024.
This incident involved local police intervention and resulted in a significant delay in the team’s return to Equatorial Guinea, tarnishing the reputation of both the National Team and the country.
These actions come on the heels of Nzalang Nacional’s performance in the group stage of the tournament, revealing a contrasting narrative of joy and disciplinary concerns.
The suspensions underscore FEGUIFUT’s commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding the image of the National Team and Equatorial Guinea in international football.
Nsue was the top scorer of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire after bagging five goals in four matches, including a hat-trick against the hosts.
