The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and former international star, a four-match suspension and a $20,000 fine following a disciplinary review.
The sanction stems from Eto’o’s conduct during Cameroon’s recent match against Morocco, according to a ruling by CAF’s Disciplinary Jury.
FECAFOOT, in an official statement, acknowledged the decision but voiced strong reservations about both the process and the rationale behind it.
The federation criticized the ruling as lacking clear justification and expressed concern that the expedited procedure failed to uphold fundamental principles of a fair and transparent disciplinary process.
Despite the setback, FECAFOOT confirmed that Eto’o intends to challenge the decision through the proper legal channels.
The federation reiterated its full support for its president and emphasized its commitment to credible and transparent disciplinary standards.
In its statement, FECAFOOT said:
“The Cameroonian Football Federation has taken note of Decision No. DC23312 issued on 14 January 2026 by the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football, in the context of the disciplinary proceedings initiated against its president in relation to the alleged misconduct that occurred during the Morocco-Cameroon match.”
“The federation points out that this decision, which resulted in the player being suspended for four matches and fined $20,000, lacks any clear justification.”
“The European Federation of Podiatrists (FECAFOOT) also points out that the expedited procedure that led to this decision raises serious concerns regarding the basic requirements of a fair trial.”
“The Union acknowledges the decision of its President to exercise the legal remedies stipulated in the applicable texts, within the specified time limits and forms.”
“FECAFOOT reaffirms its continued support for its president and its commitment to respecting the principles that govern credible disciplinary justice.”
