FC Nantes have announced their sixth signing of the winter transfer window, securing midfielder Mohamed Kaba on loan from Italian side Lecce, with an option to buy.

The 24-year-old French-Guinean midfielder struggled for playing time at Lecce, the Serie A club once associated with Samuel Umtiti, and will now have the opportunity to relaunch his career in Ligue 1.

Kaba joins Nantes at a critical stage of the season, as the Canaries fight to avoid relegation under coach Ahmed Kantari, who has called on all available players to contribute to the campaign.

Kaba’s arrival completes a busy January for Nantes, following the signings of Deiver Machado, Rémy Cabella, Ibrahima Sissoko, Ali Youssef, and Frédéric Guilbert.

The club has acted decisively in the transfer market to strengthen key areas of the squad, adding both experience and depth to address immediate challenges in the league.

While Mohamed Kaba shares a surname with former FC Nantes player Sidi Kaba, there is no relation.

Sidi Kaba, a youth product from the 1980s, survived a serious car accident but passed away in 2021.

The addition of Kaba gives Nantes another option in midfield as they seek stability and consistency in the final months of the season.

His arrival also reflects the club’s determination to address weaknesses exposed earlier in the campaign, particularly in controlling games and supporting defensive transitions.

With six new players now integrated into the squad, Nantes hope the fresh additions will provide both quality and competition for places, helping to lift the team’s performances during a decisive period in Ligue 1.

Fans and management alike will be watching closely to see how quickly the new recruits, including Kaba, adapt to the pace and intensity of French top-flight football.

As the Canaries look to move up the table, January’s transfer activity signals the club’s commitment to retaining Ligue 1 status and building a more competitive squad for the remainder of the season.
