Fate’s Irony: Ghanaian player cursed after refusing AFCON participation

Fate's Irony: Ghanaian player cursed after refusing AFCON participation

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, a player for Leicester City and the Ghanaian national team, has faced a severe setback after declining to participate in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Africa Cup of Nations 2023 kicked off in Ivory Coast yesterday, continuing until February 11th.

Issahaku refused to participate in the tournament with the Ghanaian national team, citing a focus on his performance with Leicester City, having recently joined the Foxes from Sporting Lisbon.

However, Issahaku’s wish did not unfold as planned. In a turn of fate, he received a red card in Leicester City’s match against Coventry City last Saturday, within the Championship competition.

The red card came after Issahaku’s poor tackle against an opponent, resulting in his immediate dismissal from the match.

This expulsion means the player will be absent for three matches for Leicester City, facing Ipswich Town, Swansea City, and Stoke City in the Championship.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will not be available for his team until February 10th, coinciding with the same day of the tournament’s conclusion, denying him the opportunity to participate in the competition.

It is worth mentioning that the Ghanaian national team is placed in Group B, alongside Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.

Issahaku’s absence poses a significant blow to his aspirations and represents an unexpected twist in his football journey.
