Farewell to Montreal: Victor Wanyama confirms exit after four memorable years

Victor Wanyama

Victor Wanyama, the stalwart midfielder and former Kenya national team captain, has officially announced his departure from CF Montreal, marking the end of a transformative four-year journey with the MLS Eastern Conference club.

Having joined Montreal in March 2020 from Tottenham Hotspur, Wanyama has been a key figure in the team, bringing leadership and grit to the midfield. However, as his contract approaches its December 31 expiration, the 33-year-old has decided to seek fresh challenges, leaving fans wondering about his next destination.

In an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Wanyama shared heartfelt reflections on his time in Montreal. He highlighted his readiness to continue playing at an elite level while hinting at the possibility of a homecoming to Kenya.

“My time here (in Montreal) was enriching with so many memories, but I’m done. I’m in great shape and I can still play at the highest level. So I’m ready to embrace new opportunities. Everything is possible at this point, including returning home.”

Over his tenure, Wanyama made 118 appearances for Montreal, scoring five goals and assisting five more. His legacy at the club is one of determination and resilience, leaving big shoes to fill for the next generation of players.
