Manchester United are reportedly focusing its summer transfer efforts on Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, deeming him a more viable option compared to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.
The 22-year-old Delap, who joined Ipswich from Manchester City for £20 million, has netted 10 goals and provided two assists in 28 Premier League appearances this season.
Ipswich’s likely relegation from the Premier League would activate a £40 million release clause in Delap’s contract, making him an attractive prospect for several top clubs, including Manchester United.
United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, is familiar with Delap’s capabilities from his tenure at Manchester City’s academy, potentially influencing the club’s interest.
In contrast, Hugo Ekitike, currently with Eintracht Frankfurt, has been a subject of United’s transfer considerations.
The 22-year-old forward of Cameroonian descent has delivered an impressive tally of 19 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances this season across all competitions.
However, his substantial valuation and Manchester City’s buy-back clause reportedly valued at £29.5 million present financial challenges for United.
To bolster their attacking options, Manchester United is contemplating the sale of forwards Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho at the end of the season.
Rashford’s potential permanent move to Aston Villa for £40 million and uncertainty surrounding Sancho’s future, with Chelsea holding an option to buy, are influencing United’s strategic decisions.
United’s scouting efforts are actively monitoring both Delap and Ekitike. The club’s transfer committee has identified Delap as a primary target, aligning with their objective to enhance their forward line.
