Experienced Rwandan referee Rurisa Patience Fidele to officiate key AFCON qualifier between Ghana and Niger
Ghana will face Niger on 18 November in a crucial AF CON2025 qualifier at Accra Sports Stadium, and Rwandan referee Rurisa Patience Fidele has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to oversee this highly anticipated encounter. As a seasoned FIFA-licensed referee, Fidele brings extensive experience in African tournaments, making him a suitable choice to officiate this important clash on matchday five of the qualifiers.
Fidele will lead an all-Rwandan officiating team, comprising Dieudonné Mutuyimana as the first assistant, Didier Ishimwe as the second assistant, and Jean Claude Ishimwe as the fourth official.
Fidele’s strong reputation in African football and history of officiating top-tier matches is expected to enhance the quality of refereeing in this matchup, as both teams vie for crucial points in the qualification race.
This is not Fidele’s first appearance at a high-stakes event; he has presided over numerous top-level games across the continent, including fixtures in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
His role in the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations also solidified his status as one of Africa’s more dependable referees.
In his home country, he is a prominent official in the Rwanda Premier League, regularly officiating high-profile games and earning a reputation for consistency and fairness.
The refereeing team will also work closely with Gambian match commissioner Bakary K. Jammeh and referee assessor Mfubusa Bernard from Burundi, who will monitor and evaluate the officiating crew’s performance.
Their oversight ensures adherence to the highest standards, which is critical in a match that carries considerable weight for both Ghana and Niger.
Refereeing Team for Ghana vs. Niger:
- Central Referee: Rurisa Patience Fidele (Rwanda)
- Assistant Referee I: Dieudonné Mutuyimana (Rwanda)
- Assistant Referee II: Didier Ishimwe (Rwanda)

Scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT, the match will see Ghana and Niger in intense competition, with both teams aiming to secure a favorable position in the qualifying rounds.
The presence of an experienced refereeing team underscores CAF’s commitment to maintaining high standards in officiating, especially as the stakes increase in the approach to afcon2025 in Morocco.
The spotlight on Fidele and his team emphasizes the importance of strong officiating in shaping fair and competitive football across the continent.
