The six cities that will host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have been agreed by the North African football authorities, AfricaSoccer.com can exclusively reveal.
Morocco federation insiders have told Africa’s leading football news website that Rabat, Casablanca, and Marrakech are among the cities they have selected to host the competition.
Tangier, Agadir, and Fez were also revealed as the battlegrounds where Africa’s football giants will fight for continental glory.
With Morocco already boasting a rich history of hosting top-tier international tournaments, this news comes as the latest feather in their cap, cementing their position as Africa’s football powerhouse.
The dates for the tournament have also been confirmed.
The group stages will light up these six cities from December 21 to 31, followed by the high-octane knockout stages, starting with the Round of 16 between January 3-6.
The quarter-finals will take place on January 9-10, and all eyes will be on the semi-finals on January 14, before the grand finale on January 18, which is expected to be held in the capital, Rabat.
This will not be Morocco’s first rodeo.
The North African footballing giant last hosted the AFCON in 1988, a tournament etched into football folklore, where Morocco’s Atlas Lions roared through to the semi-finals, only to fall short of lifting the coveted trophy.
Since then, Morocco has become synonymous with hosting world-class events, including the FIFA Club World Cup and the African Nations Championship (CHAN), where they have demonstrated their ability to seamlessly blend passion with professionalism.
Morocco’s infrastructure is already primed for success. From Rabat’s electrifying atmosphere at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium to the football-crazed streets of Casablanca, where the iconic Stade Mohammed V stands tall, the country is set to provide a dazzling spectacle.
The new addition of Marrakech’s state-of-the-art facilities, combined with the charm of Tangier, the coastal beauty of Agadir, and Fez’s cultural prestige, means that Morocco’s AFCON 2025 will be a tournament for the ages.
CAF’s decision to award Morocco with the hosting rights signals their faith in the kingdom’s ability to deliver an unparalleled football festival.
