Ex-Saudi star Al-Montashari praises Senegal’s Eduard Mendy despite Al Ahli’s defeat to Pyramids FC
Former Saudi Arabia star Hamad Al-Montashari has singled out Senegal goalkeeper Eduard Mendy for praise despite Al Ahli’s defeat to Pyramids FC in the Intercontinental Club Cup.
The former Chelsea shot stopper made crucial saves as his outfit fell to Pyramids FC in a high-stake clash on Tuesday.
Congolese international, Fiston Mayele was unplayable, netting a sensational hat-trick to snatch a 3-1 victory for the Champions League holders.
And according to Al-Montashari, the Saudi Arabia giants escaped a heavy defeat, thanks to Edouard Mendy’s saves in the match.
“Yaisle’s management of the match was poor, and the team was not in its best condition. If it weren’t for Mendy, Al-Ahly would have lost by a heavy score.”
“The team was clearly poor, and Ibanez continues to make mistakes. I believe the mistakes he made against Pyramids are an extension of previous disasters. He suffered from poor positioning and failed to clear the ball.”
“Despite the loss, the Saudi Federation should have taken Al-Ahly into consideration and postponed the Al-Hilal match that preceded the Pyramids match, as they represent the nation.”
“This is a match to forget, and Al Ahly must learn from past mistakes and get back on the right track, as the season is still long” he said.
Having triumphed over Al Ahli, the Egyptian outfit will face Cruz Azul or the eventual winner of the Copa Libertadores on December 13 in the FIFA Challenger Cup.
The winner of the FIFA Challenger Cup will set up a date with Paris Saint Germain in the FIFA Continental Cup 2025.
