‘Everyone likes Chido Obi’ – Wes Brown tips Danish-Nigerian forward for big future at Manchester United
Manchester United legend Wes Brown has revealed that everyone within the club holds rising teenage striker Chido Obi in high regard despite his limited playing time this season.
Born in Denmark to Nigerian parents, the 17-year-old centre-forward joined United from Arsenal on a free transfer last year and ended the previous campaign on a promising note, featuring eight times for the first team — including seven Premier League appearances.
However, Obi has been notably absent from manager Ruben Amorim’s plans this term following United’s significant attacking reinforcements over the summer.
Despite that, Brown insists the teenager remains highly valued by the coaching staff and predicts a bright future for him at Old Trafford.
“I think with obviously the signing of (Matheus) Cunha and (Benjamin) Sesko, it’s taken a little bit of the opportunity away, which he’ll be a little bit disappointed with,” Brown told Tribalfootball.com.
“But at the same time, he can get his head down and really work now and try and get back to where he was.”
The former England defender added that while Obi’s route to the first team has become more competitive, his potential remains clear to those who work with him daily.
“Everyone likes Obi and you just want him to continue the way he’s going, you know, physically as well,” Brown said.
“I know he’s dead tall, but believe me, I don’t think he’s got that full strength yet.
“That’s what he can work on, and the talent’s still there. Hopefully the next time we see him, he’s even stronger physically and mentally better as well.”
Brown, who came through United’s famed youth academy himself, believes patience and hard work will be key to Obi’s development as he continues to mature into a complete striker.
