Idrissa Gana Gueye is set to remain at Everton for at least another season after the club confirmed its intention to extend the midfielder’s stay at Goodison Park.
The Senegal international had reached the end of his current contract, prompting speculation over a potential departure.
However, Everton have moved to end the uncertainty by publicly stating their offer of a new deal to the 35-year-old, who has been one of the club’s standout performers this campaign.
“The Club is offering new contracts to Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gana Gueye while we continue to work with the representatives of Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin,” Everton announced in an official statement.
Though no further terms were disclosed, the gesture signals a clear commitment from the club to keep the experienced midfielder for the 2025–2026 season.
The decision follows a string of exceptional displays from Gueye, who capped his impressive year by being named Everton’s Player of the Season for 2024–2025.
Gueye’s consistent performances have been vital to Everton’s stability during a challenging campaign.
The veteran started 37 matches across 40 appearances in all competitions, showcasing not only his enduring fitness but also his central role in the Toffees’ midfield structure.
This marks the second spell at Everton for Gueye, who initially joined the club in 2016 from Aston Villa.
After a stint with Paris Saint-Germain, he returned to Merseyside in 2022, and has since made 211 appearances for the club, earning admiration for his work rate, ball-winning ability, and leadership on and off the pitch.
The decision to retain Gueye comes as Everton look to maintain experience within their squad, especially with several senior players approaching the final stages of their contracts.
His influence has not only been felt on the pitch but also in mentoring younger players and offering a calm, composed presence in midfield.
While negotiations continue with other key players, including Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Gueye’s likely extension offers Everton a degree of continuity as they plan for the future.
No official date has been given for the finalisation of Gueye’s new deal, but his continued presence appears all but assured, a reward for both loyalty and performance at a crucial time for the club.
