Moyes says Everton fans are happy with Salah exit

Everton manager David Moyes has revealed that the club’s supporters were happy to see Mohamed Salah leave Liverpool, while acknowledging the fierce rivalry between the two Merseyside clubs.

Salah officially ended his nine-year spell with Liverpool at the end of last season after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

His departure marked the end of a hugely successful era in which the Egyptian international established himself as one of the Premier League’s most influential and consistent attacking players.

Despite leaving Liverpool, Salah has continued to prove his quality on the international stage. The 34-year-old has rediscovered top form with Egypt and has been one of the standout performers for the Pharaohs at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The veteran forward has played a key role in helping Egypt qualify for the Round of 16, with the North African side now preparing for a blockbuster clash against Argentina on Tuesday.

Speaking in an interview with ON Sport, Moyes acknowledged the fierce rivalry between Everton and Liverpool before discussing Salah’s departure.

“Talking about Mohamed Salah is not my concern, because my team is Everton, and we are fierce rivals of Liverpool,” Moyes said.

The Scottish manager then admitted that Everton supporters viewed Salah’s exit as positive news due to the threat he consistently posed during his years at Anfield.

“But I think all Everton fans were happy that Mohamed Salah left. He was a special player over the years, a brilliant goalscorer, a good player, and Liverpool fans enjoyed him, so I think we are all happy that Mohamed Salah left Liverpool. I am sure this will not be the end for him, but his performance during his time with Liverpool was exceptional,” he added.

Moyes’ comments underline the level of respect Salah commanded across English football, even among Liverpool’s fiercest rivals. Throughout his spell at Anfield, the Egyptian forward established himself as one of the club’s modern legends through his goals, consistency, and influence in major competitions.

When asked whether Salah could ever make the switch to Everton, Moyes dismissed the possibility entirely, insisting the rivalry between the two clubs makes such a scenario unrealistic.

“No, that’s not possible. The competition is very fierce. Mohamed Salah’s position at Liverpool is very high, so it would be impossible,” he concluded.

As Egypt prepare for their crucial World Cup showdown against Argentina, Salah remains central to the Pharaohs’ ambitions, continuing to demonstrate that he can still perform at the highest level despite the end of his Liverpool chapter.
