An Everton supporter has been banned from attending football matches for three years after mocking Liverpool’s Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, prompting a swift response from the footballing authorities.
The incident unfolded when Joel Parowayz, an Everton fan, was present at Anfield, the home ground of Liverpool, on October 21st before the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton.
Parowayz taunted Mohamed Salah and Liverpool supporters, referencing the tragic Hillsborough disaster of 1985.
Following his admission of guilt, a court in Sefton ruled to prohibit him from attending football matches for the next three years.
Additionally, Parowayz was fined £500 for his racially abusive remarks uttered immediately upon hearing Mohamed Salah’s name announced over the stadium’s internal radio system.
When questioned about his actions during the Liverpool match, the fan admitted to the BBC, “Because I am foolish.”
The swift action taken by the authorities highlights the seriousness with which incidents of racism and taunting are being addressed in football stadiums, emphasizing the need for fans to uphold respect and sportsmanship in the spirit of the game.
