On Monday, the president of the French Basketball Federation (FFBA) announced on Twitter that France has officially submitted its candidacy to host Euro 2015 basketball, originally awarded to Ukraine.
Due to Ukraine’s ongoing political crisis, there have been significant delays in the preparations for the tournament, raising concerns about Kiev’s ability to host the event. In light of this situation, Paris has stepped forward to propose its candidacy to international authorities.
“France is a candidate to take over Euro 2015,” stated Jean-Pierre Siutat in a series of tweets dedicated to the matter. “We will do our best! For the players, for French basketball.”
Ukraine was initially chosen to host the tournament in 2011. However, the country’s political instability has prompted France to express its interest in hosting the event. Discussions between France and Ukraine have taken place regarding this matter, as indicated by Jean-Pierre Siutat in his tweets.
“Today’s discussion with Volkov, president of the Ukrainian federation… To be continued,” he added in one of his messages, suggesting ongoing dialogue between the two countries on the issue.
