Eswatini’s Kwakhe Thwala expresses ambitions for COSAFA Cup 2024
Eswatini’s national football team, Sihlangu Semnikati, is gearing up for the 2024 COSAFA Cup with renewed vigor and determination. After completing their preparations on Saturday, the team departed for South Africa, where the tournament will be held. The squad, led by captain Kwakhe Thwala, is brimming with confidence and ambition.
Before heading to South Africa, the team participated in an official flag ceremony, which served as a morale booster and a symbol of national pride.
During this event, Captain Kwakhe Thwala expressed the team’s strong ambitions for the tournament.
The COSAFA Cup presents a critical opportunity for Eswatini to rebound from a disappointing series of matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they failed to secure a single victory in four attempts.
Thwala, newly appointed as captain, spoke passionately about the team’s goals. “We want to change the poor results the team is known for.
Each player showed dedication in training. We are looking forward to the first three games and promise to get good results,” he said.
His words reflect a collective determination to improve and make a mark in the regional competition.
The team’s first match in the group stage is set against the Botswana Zebras next Wednesday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Coach Sifiso Ntibane has assembled a youthful squad for the COSAFA Cup, featuring a significant contingent of players from Mbabane Swallows.
Among them is Ayanda Gadlela, who returns to the national team after missing the World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Mauritius.
This infusion of young talent is seen as a strategic move to inject energy and new potential into the team.
The preparation phase has been rigorous, with the coaching staff emphasizing physical fitness, tactical awareness, and team cohesion.
The players’ commitment during training sessions has been noteworthy, fostering a sense of optimism about their performance in the tournament.
The COSAFA Cup, scheduled from June 26 to July 7, 2024, offers Sihlangu Semnikati a platform to showcase their capabilities and regain confidence.
Eswatini’s participation in the COSAFA Cup is not just about competing but also about rebuilding and setting a foundation for future success.
With a blend of experienced players and fresh talent, the team aims to overturn their recent misfortunes and chart a new course.
The coming matches will be crucial in determining whether Sihlangu Semnikati can live up to their captain’s bold promise and deliver the results their fans hope for.
The stage is set for Eswatini to make an impact at the COSAFA Cup 2024, and all eyes will be on Captain Kwakhe Thwala and his team as they strive to bring pride to their nation.
