Esperance winger Elias Mokwena has emerged as a transfer target for an unnamed club in the Russian Premier League.
The 25-year-old’s outstanding performance last season did not go unnoticed, with several clubs jostling for his signature in the ongoing transfer window.
In the recently concluded campaign, Mokwena made 38 appearances, netting 7 goals, and also featured in the Club World Cup, where Espérance finished third in a group alongside Chelsea, Los Angeles, and Flamengo.
According to reports, Mokwena is a priority target for an unnamed club in Russia, who is posied to add the enterprising right-winger to their ranks for the new campaign.
With the name of the club being withheld, Mokwena is said to have expressed desire to move to Europe this summer.
Given the current state of the Russian championship—banned from all international federations and essentially functioning as an amateur league, with its teams isolated within the Russian federation—a transfer for the 25-year-old Mokwena could prove to be a disastrous decision for his career.
