Espérance Sportive de Tunis have firmly denied reports suggesting Algerian international Youcef Belaïli is on the verge of a move to Egyptian giants Zamalek SC, labelling the claims as unfounded speculation.
Speaking exclusively to Africafootunited, club spokesperson Walid Guerfala was categorical in his response to the recent wave of rumours: “Obviously, this is a rumor,” Guerfala stated. “Youcef Belaïli is untransferable.”
Belaïli, who rejoined the Tunisian powerhouse last summer, is currently under contract with the club until 30 June 2026.
His return to Espérance has marked a crucial phase in both his domestic and international resurgence, following a spell away from the spotlight.
His impressive displays since re-signing have played a pivotal role in his recall to the Algerian national team during the FIFA international window in March.
The recent reports in Egyptian media suggesting that the 32-year-old had agreed to terms with Zamalek were met with swift denial from the Tunis-based club, who insist there has been no contact between the sides and that Belaïli remains central to their ongoing project.
Since their early exit from the CAF Champions League, Espérance have turned their focus to domestic success and preparations for their upcoming participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
Belaïli, a creative force and experienced figure within the squad, is expected to play a key role in the club’s pursuit of the Tunisian Cup and the retention of their league title.
With a deal in place for the next two seasons, Espérance remain adamant that their prized asset is not for sale.
The club’s stance underlines their intent to maintain stability within the squad and to keep hold of a player who has been instrumental in their recent campaigns.
For Belaïli, the immediate objective is clear: help guide Espérance to silverware and cement his position both at club level and within the national team setup.
As speculation swirls abroad, the message from Tunis is unequivocal—Belaïli stays put.
