ES Setif are hoping for a major turnaround in the new season after appointing experienced German coach Antoine Hey as their new manager.
The 54-year-old was officially unveiled on Monday, signaling the club’s ambition to return to the top of Algerian football.
Hey brings a wealth of experience both as a former player and manager. He once featured for European sides like Schalke 04, Birmingham City, and Fortuna Düsseldorf before taking on coaching jobs across Africa. His coaching CV includes Al-Merreikh in Sudan, US Monastir in Tunisia, and national teams such as Rwanda, Kenya, Liberia, Gambia, and Lesotho.
As part of a squad rebuild, ES Setif has parted ways with seven players. Abdelmoumene Chikhi, Amir Nouri, Diarra Moriba, Driss Chaabi, and Abdelrazak Mahra all left after their contracts expired. Oladapo Augustin Tunde and Kosi Rodrigue also had their contracts terminated.
The club, which ended last season in sixth place with 41 points, is aiming for a stronger showing. The arrival of Hey is expected to inject discipline, structure, and a new tactical approach.
