ES Setif boosted their push for a strong league finish with a hard-fought 1-0 win over MC Oran on Friday in the 23rd round of the Algerian League.
The win lifts ES Setif to 34 points, moving them into fourth place, just ahead of USM Alger, who have a game in hand.
Despite playing second-best for most of the match, ES Setif stayed compact and soaked up pressure. MC Oran created more chances and controlled large stretches, but failed to convert in the final third. Their wastefulness proved costly.
The decisive moment came in the 85th minute when substitute Akram Jehnet calmly slotted home a penalty, giving the hosts a dramatic late lead. MC Oran, stuck on 24 points, remain in 13th place, level with Chabab Magra but ahead only on goal difference.
It was a strong performance by Setif, who showed patience and discipline under pressure. Meanwhile, MC Oran will be left frustrated, having dominated the match but walked away empty-handed once again.
