ES Sétif: One Step from Glory and a Club World Cup Dream
After 25 years of waiting, Algerian football is once again on the brink of continental glory. ES Sétif has qualified for the CAF Champions League final, becoming the first Algerian club to do so in the modern format of the competition — and now, their sights are set on an even bigger stage: the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup.
🏆 A Historic Feat
-
ES Sétif reached the final after edging out TP Mazembe of DR Congo.
-
Though they lost the second leg 3-2, their 2-1 victory in the first leg was enough to take them through on away goals.
-
This marks the first appearance by an Algerian team in the final since JS Kabylie in 1989.
🇩🇿 National Support Behind Sétif
The achievement has united the Algerian football community, with the FAF (Algerian Football Federation) throwing its full support behind the team.
“The FAF welcomed with great pleasure the brilliant qualification of ES Sétif… and urges them to move forward to win this trophy which would allow them to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup,” read an official statement.
President Mohamed Raouraoua and the federal office extended heartfelt congratulations to club president Hassen Hamar, the staff, and players.
🌍 Club World Cup Within Reach
Winning the CAF Champions League would not only crown Sétif as Africa’s top club but also qualify them for the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup, to be held in Morocco.
A triumph there would mark a monumental moment for Algerian football, showcasing its strength on the global stage.
⚽ Next Challenge: The Final
ES Sétif must now focus on the final — where the pressure, expectations, and opportunity are higher than ever. The Black Eagles have already made history, but their ultimate goal still lies ahead.
Can they finish the job and fly to the world stage? All of Algeria is watching — and hoping.
