Baghdad Bounedjah Set for Al Sadd Move Amid European Interest
Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah appears to be closing in on a move to Qatari giants Al Sadd, marking a surprising turn in his career trajectory. While many had tipped the prolific forward for a jump to Europe, reports from Shems FM suggest the deal with Al Sadd is now official, with Bounedjah set to sign a three-year contract.
Since joining Tunisian outfit Étoile Sportive du Sahel, Bounedjah has been in sensational form, netting 24 league goals and drawing attention from several Ligue 1 sides. However, it seems the financial appeal of the Gulf has proven decisive.
According to Mosaïque FM, Al Sadd’s opening offer for the 23-year-old was around €2.5 million—a significant fee by regional standards. The deal would see Bounedjah join fellow Algerian international Nadir Belhadj at the Doha-based club, one of the most successful teams in Qatar’s domestic league.
The move marks a shift in expectations for Bounedjah, whose talent had sparked hopes of a European breakthrough. Still, the transfer to Al Sadd could provide him with financial security and a chance to compete regularly in the AFC Champions League.
While some observers may view the Gulf move as a missed opportunity for European development, others see it as a strategic step in Bounedjah’s career—especially given Al Sadd’s stature and the presence of experienced compatriots to ease his transition.
With the deal reportedly sealed, the Fennecs striker is expected to be unveiled soon by Al Sadd, as he begins a new chapter in the Middle East.
