El Kaoutari Eyes Move Abroad, Open to Premier League Adventure
Moroccan international defender Abdelhamid El Kaoutari has hinted at a possible departure from Montpellier this summer, as he looks to explore new challenges and reignite his career.
The 25-year-old, who rose through the ranks at Montpellier HSC and has been a key figure in the squad, spoke candidly about his future in an interview with Midi Libre.
“I’m happy in Montpellier, where I have the coach’s trust and get along with everyone,” said El Kaoutari. “But perhaps it’s time to discover something else.”
The central defender, known for his composure and tactical awareness, admitted he is tempted by the idea of moving abroad—particularly to the English Premier League, which he described as “spectacular.”
“That league really tempts me,” he said. “But if I have to stay in France, I have no problem with that either.”
While El Kaoutari remains loyal to Montpellier, he was clear that any potential move would be done respectfully, especially given the club’s role in shaping his career.
“It’s normal that the club that trained me should benefit,” he said, suggesting he would only leave under terms that are financially fair to the Ligue 1 side.
El Kaoutari, a French-born Moroccan international, has been capped by Morocco and was part of the squad that featured in the Africa Cup of Nations. A potential transfer could mark a key turning point for the defender, who now seems ready to embrace a new chapter—ideally one that elevates him to a more prominent European stage.
