Equatorial Guinea captain Emilio Nsue Lopez has expressed deep concern about the behavior of the country’s football leaders, revealing distressing incidents that led to his suspension from the national team.
Nsue and experienced midfielder Ivan Edu Salvador were suspended by the Equatoguinean Football Federation (FEGUIFUT) a few days ago for gross indiscipline during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Nsue, the top scorer at AFCON 2023 with 5 goals, disclosed financial mismanagement by the federation, alleging that over €1M from AFCON 2022 remains unaccounted for.
He accused leaders of neglecting players’ needs, citing instances where players had to fund their own equipment and the federation’s failure to settle debts with a hotel.
In a live Instagram broadcast, Nsue criticized the lack of support from his country’s football authorities during the presentation of his top scorer award, highlighting a sense of ingratitude and humiliation.
He vowed not to return to the national team until significant changes occur, expressing frustration over proposed changes to the sporting project, including the introduction of Brazilian players.
Nsue concluded by condemning the alleged corruption within the football administration, accusing them of mishandling funds and leaving the national team in unfavorable conditions.
The strained relationship between Nsue and the football leaders, including Ivan Salvador, may prolong their absence from the national team.
